Dynamic Movements, a dance studio in Northern Suffolk Virginia, strives to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals by inspiring a healthy state of mind and body through the teaching of performing arts.

Kristen Holland Burgess, Director
Kristen acquired a B.A. in Business Psychology from Christopher Newport University while studying dance at Old Dominion University. She has taught dance in the local area for over 15 years at various studios. While attending CNU/ ODU Kristen was a member of the performing dance team, and she was given the opportunity to choreograph dance portions for area productions such as Dickens Christmas Village. She has also participated in various dance conventions and competitions on the East coast. Kristen has developed award winning choreography. Her choreography has won Best Talent in national pageants and Most Entertaining at Dance Competitions. Kristen has also co-directed and judged for a dance competition. Her students have gone on to receive full scholarships for dance to colleges such as VCU and U Arts in Philadelphia. As a certified group exercise instructor/Pilates instructor through the Red Cross and the YMCA, she is certified in CPR and AED. Kristen created Dynamic Movements to offer local children, teens, and adults an opportunity to develop their talents in a nurturing yet structured environment where they can grow to become professional performers.

Lacey Klose, Assistant Director/Dance Instructor
Lacey grew up with a passion for dance, spending much of her youth as a dedicated member of the Dynamic Movements’ award-winning dance team. Throughout high school, Lacey expanded her interests by taking classes on early childhood development, which further fueled her enthusiasm for working with children and understanding their growth and learning processes. After highschool, Lacey pursued higher education at TCC, where she graduated with an associate degree in accounting. Today, Lacey combines her love for dance and her knowledge of childhood development to inspire and educate.

Katie Inman, Dance Team Director/Dance Instructor
Katie has a BFA in illustration from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. She began taking dance when she was very young even performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond. Throughout high school and college she continued her training in LA and NY with some of the top dancers and choreographers in the country. Katie has over 10 years of teaching experience at many top ranked studios in both MI and VA specializing in Tap, Jazz and Hip-Hop. She has won numerous special awards including, best choreography, most entertaining and top overall score at various local and national competitions. Her students have made appearances on Good Morning America, Showtime at the Apollo and Disney. Most recently you may have seen her choreography in the 2008, 2009 Miss Virginia Pageants. Katie is excited to share her love of dance and choreography with the students at Dynamic Movements.

Dalia Salary, Dance Team Director/Dance Instructor
Dalia Salary began dancing at the age of three years old at The Academy of Dance and Gymnastics in Newport News, VA. Dalia started competing at the age of 5 and continued to do so at the Academy of Dance and Gymnastics until 2005. At the age of 9, Dalia moved to Denise Wall’s Dance Energy in Virginia Beach, VA where she continued training and resumed competitive dancing until her graduation in 2014. Over the course of her dance career, Dalia trained with master teachers such as Travis Wall, Jason Parsons, Ivan Koumaev, Anthony Morigerato, and many other esteemed dancers and choreographers. In 2013, Dalia was privileged to be a featured dancer on the Hampton Roads Show. In 2014, Dalia was also privileged to feature in a Liberty Tax commercial filmed in Times Square. Dalia has had the opportunity to participate in many nationals as an elite dancer as well as performed on stages such as the Hammerstein in New York City. Dalia became an Assistant Teacher in 2012 and has enjoyed teaching students dance since then. Her mission is to inspire and educate young dancers from all walks of life on the beauty and intricacies of the art of dance.

Taylor Jeffries, Performance Team Director/Dance Instructor
Taylor was a proud member of the national award winning Dynamic Movements Dance Team for 12 years. Beginning at age 13, Taylor was a part of our student assistant program where she worked side by side with our instructors in the class room. She went on to acquire a B.A. in Dance with a minor in exercise science from Old Dominion University. While At ODU, she was vice president of the dance association and she received the Amanda Kinzer scholarship in dance, Marilyn S. Melchor performing arts award scholarship, and the Eva May Morris dance scholarship. While earning her B.A. in Dance, Taylor had the privilege to perform in multiple shows through the University Dance Theater, the Neon festival, the Fantastic Planet arts festival, the Barry Arts Museum exhibition “Alchemy”, as well as for the American College Dance Festival’s gala. She then went on to acquire an Associate of Applied Science degree from Riverside College of Health Careers and is currently a practicing licensed physical therapist assistant. Taylor’s movement style emphasizes performance techniques that center on intentional expression. She has a passion for improvisation and discovering new movement patterns, and she looks forward to sharing her love of dance along with her expertise in anatomy, kinesiology, and injury prevention with her students. Taylor is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

Tori Schatzel, Dance Instructor
Tori started dancing and doing gymnastics at the age of 2 in the Hampton Roads area. Tori was a proud member of the national award-winning Dynamic Movements Dance Team for 5 years until she graduated in 2018. Beginning at age 13, Tori was a part of our student assistant program where she worked side by side with our instructors in the classroom. She attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where she continued to dance by taking classes in the department, performing in their Fall Appalachian Dance Ensemble, and participating in the Momentum Dance Club. With Momentum, Tori performed in multiple dance concerts and enjoyed learning from her other members through open classes. While at App State, she took a Latin Jazz class that focused on the different styles and partnering. Tori is excited to work with new and returning dancers to help develop their love for dance. She is also Red Cross Certified in First Aid, CPR, and using an AED.

Benjamin Belhumeur, Dance Instructor
Benjamin is the owner and creator of The Belhumeur Collective. The Belhumeur Collective was created to combine Belhumeur Choreography, Belhumeur Photography, graphic design, and music editing all under one roof. Along with The Belhumeur Collective, Benjamin is also the creator and Artistic Director of Elite by Ben and Release the Fire Dance Convention. Benjamin has had his award-winning choreography featured at numerous studios and schools across multiple states, as well as internationally in Canada. Benjamin is currently an instructor and choreographer for Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Point Park University International Summer Dance, Epic Dance Convention and Competition, as well as many local dance studios. Benjamin is also a regional and national judge for a variety of competitions. Benjamin has worked with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a Dance Captain as well as a Director and Choreographer. He was also a resident artist at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, and has had the privilege of teaching for the National High School Dance Festival. During his training, he attended local dance studios as well as Point Park University, La Roche College, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. He also attended summer programs to work with companies such as The American Ballet Theater, North Carolina Dance Theater, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He has had the opportunity to work with and perform works by Kiesha Lalama, Doug Bentz, Trye McIntyre, Bill T. Jones, Kevin Iega Jeff and more. Ban had the honor of performing and assisting in the re-staging of Torque by Kiesha Lalama for the Jazz Dance World Congress. Benjamin received his Associates degree in dance and dance education from the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) during his senior year of high school at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. After graduating from high school and CCBC in the same year, he attended Point Park University, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in dance with a concentration in Jazz. Benjamin also attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for his Bachelors in Photography.

Kelsy Lee, Dance Instructor
Kelsy started training in Musical Theatre and Dance beginning at the age of 10. Her freshman year she studied at Radford University before transferring and receiving her B.A. in Dance and Theatre from Old Dominion University in Norfolk. There she has performed with the University Dance Theatre, and the Fantastic Planet Festival. She has choreographed for several High Schools in the area, and has been involved in community productions. She is currently a Teaching Artist for The American Theatre in Hampton, and the resident Choreographer for Spotlight Productions. Kelsy is also CPR certified.

Mariah Lopez, Ballet Coordinator/Advisor
Mariah Lopez is a Spanish American choreographer, educator, researcher, and painter whose work bridges the worlds of performance, pedagogy, and social inquiry. She holds a Bachelor’s in Dance and International Relations from Rider University under partial scholarship, completed advanced choreographic studies at the Dance ICONS Choreographic Institute under Vladimir Angelov under partial scholarship, and earned an M.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee as a recipient of the Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowship.
Based in Virginia, Lopez has been commissioned and has presented work across New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Her choreography has been featured in commercial competitions, universities, the Youth America Grand Prix, and other prestigious platforms. Her movement style is rooted in emotional risk-taking, using dance as a vehicle to uncover truths about social inequality while exploring somatic practices and their connections to cross-generational trauma.
As an instructor, Lopez integrates dance history and pedagogy to develop dancers’ technical and artistic capacity emphasizing conditioning for strength, mental training for clarity and articulation, and performance skills grounded in intentionality. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Christopher Newport University, Ballet Director, and active community educator and choreographer. Mariah will begin her Ph.D. studies in Educational Leadership at Old Dominion University in Fall 2025.
Mariah is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

Michelle Hendrickson, Office Manager
Michelle Hendrickson completed her classical ballet training in the professional division of The School of Cleveland Ballet under Artistic Director Dennis Nahat, renowned ballet master Daniel Job, and Nicole Sowinska.  She studied and explored the artistry of modern dance with dancer/choreographer/director Tom Evert at The Tom Evert Dance Company. She studied tap, jazz and Cecchetti ballet methodology with Jan Martin at Les Beaucaires Dance Studio in Ohio. Michelle’s performance history includes roles with The Cleveland Ballet, BalletMet, numerous group and featured soloist routines in local shows, as well as several showcased modern and character dance roles in college theatre productions.  Michelle has taught dance and gymnastics for more than a decade, directed multiple recital productions at local dance studios and has created award winning choreography. Michelle teaches Pre-Kindergarten at Aldersgate KinderPrep in Chesapeake and holds a degree in Early Childhood Development.  She is CPR/AED/First Aid Certified.  Michelle is a certified American Barre Technique instructor.

Blake Roeder Guest Instructor
Blake is the son of Ann Catherine Cross, and has been dancing his whole life. In his youth, he studied at ACCSD, Richmond Ballet, and Virginia School of the Arts Summer Program. He holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as well as an MFA in Dance from Hollins University. He has also studied at New York University, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Danceworks Berlin, The Palucca University of Dance Dresden, as well as apprenticeships with The Semperoper Ballet Dresden and The Forsythe Company. He is the co-founder of We Are Artists, and has been producing independent choreographic and performance art projects since 2006.

Lauren Sinclair, Guest Ballet Instructor
Lauren Sinclair began her ballet training with Sandra Balestracci in Williamsburg, VA. Lauren is a graduate of the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC where she trained under the tutelage of Alla Sizova, Nikolai Morozov, and Ludmila Morkovina. During her ten year professional dance career, Lauren performed with Ballet Austin, Virginia Ballet Theatre, Todd Rosenlieb Dance, and Elbert Watson Dance Company. Her performances included roles in Serenade, Allegro Brillante, Cinderella, CoppĂ©lia, Nutcracker, and many other classical and contemporary works. She has a BS in Communication from Old Dominion University and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) and Certified Pilates Mat instructor. Lauren strives to create a supportive environment for all her students, so they can learn and grow to their maximum potential without a fear of failure. She has a passion for the mental health of dancers and is a Mental Wellness Certified Dance Educator through Danscend. She is also trained in the following programs: Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), SugarFoot Therapy (SFT) Injury Prevention for Dancers, and Flexistretcher (FLX). Lauren has been on the faculty of The Governor’s School for the Arts since 2012, teaching for the Dance, Musical Theatre, and Vocal Music Departments and has choreographed for Dance and Vocal Music. Lauren joined ODU as an Adjunct Instructor in 2020. She teaches Master Classes in the Hampton Roads area and for the Regional High School Dance Festival.
