Class Descriptions

Creative Movements

Boys and Girls ages 2-3 are invited to participate in this 30 minute class. Through movement and music, dancers will develop coordination, musicality and listening skills. In order to develop independence, parents may enter class with the student but are encouraged to leave the classroom once the student is comfortable.

Ballet/Jazz/Tumble (ages 3-4)

For first year students ages 3-4. This class will explore basic ballet, jazz and tumble technique. Every class will include stretching, class etiquette, proper ballet/jazz vocabulary, rhythm, coordination and listening skills. Students will work on basic tumbling skills including forward rolls, bridges, hand stands, balance, flexibility and strength. Classes are designed to inspire self confidence, independence and creativity.

Ballet/Tap/Tumble (ages 3-4)

For first year students ages 3-4. This class will explore basic ballet, tap and tumble technique. Every class will include stretching, class etiquette, proper ballet/tap vocabulary, rhythm, coordination and listening skills. Students will work on basic tumbling skills including forward rolls, bridges, hand stands, balance, flexibility and strength. Classes are designed to inspire self confidence, independence and creativity.

For students ages 4 with dance experience and new students ages 5. This class will explore basic ballet, jazz and tumble technique in more depth. Emphasis will be placed on a more extensive vocabulary and the importance of class etiquette. Every class will include stretching, rhythm, coordination and listening skills. Students will work on basic tumbling skills including forward/backward rolls, bridges, hand stands, balance, back walk overs, cartwheel, flexibility and strength. Classes are designed to inspire self confidence, independence and creativity.

Dancers will use pom pons as a fun way to learn basic cheer moves. Students will work on basic tumbling skills including forward/backward rolls, bridges, hand stands, balance, back walk overs, cartwheel, flexibility and strength. Classes are designed to inspire self confidence, independence and creativity.

Ballet /Jazz/pom pom (ages 5-6)

For students ages 5 with dance experience and new students ages 6 This class will explore ballet and jazz technique with more detail. Dancers will learn proper ballet, and jazz terminology. Every class will include stretching, rhythm, coordination and listening skills. Advanced classes are by recommendation only.

Ballet/Tap/Tumble (ages 5-6)

For students ages 5 with dance experience and new students ages 6. This class will explore tap and ballet technique with more detail as well as introduce students to basic Tumble movement. Dancers will learn proper ballet, tap, and tumble terminology. Every class will include stretching, rhythm, coordination and listening skills.

Ballet classes

A classical form of technical dance characterized by proper ballet steps and poses. Steps are based on turned out positions of the legs.

Ballet A ages 6-8/Ballet A ages 9-11/Ballet A ages 12 +

Beginner/Intermediate dancers. This 45 minute class is designed for a student who enjoys ballet and takes less than 3 hours of dance weekly. No dance experience required.

Teen/Adult Ballet

For teens ages 13 and up and adults. This 45 minute class will focus on basic ballet technique and stretching.

Professional Track Ballet Classes

For experienced dancers. These classes are designed for students beginning and continuing a dedicated path in dance. Students should take more than 3 hours of dance weekly. Dance experience required. Level placement will be determined by audition.

Ballet Mini ages 5-8, Ballet Junior ages 9-12, Ballet Teen ages 13-15 , Ballet Senior ages 14 +, Ballet Elite Ages 11 & up

Beginning Point/Pre Pointe’

For experienced dancers in ballet levels Junior and Teen. Beginning point is by teacher recommendation only.

Point 1-4

For experienced dancers in ballet placement will be determined by teacher.

Classical Variations

Dancers will learn variations from classical ballets. Dancers will be on flat ballet shoes unless invited to be on point by teacher.

Jazz classes

A form of dance based on technique, using isolations, rhythms, and contrasting movements. Steps are based on mostly parallel positions of the legs. Includes styles such as Latin, contemporary, funk, Broadway and pop.

Jazz A ages 6-8/Jazz A ages 9-11/Jazz A ages 12+

This 45 minute class is designed for a student who enjoys Jazz and takes less than 3 hours of dance weekly. No dance experience required.

Teen/Adult Jazz

For teens ages 13 and up and adults. This 45 minute class will focus on basic jazz technique and body conditioning.

Professional Track Jazz Classes

For experienced dancers. These classes are designed for students beginning and continuing a dedicated path in dance. Dance experience required. Level placement will be determined by audition.

Contemporary Classes

A contemporary form of dance sharing some ballet technique, yet focusing on off center work, floor work, self-expression, and a deliberate use of gravity. Modern emphasizes the parallel positions of the legs.

Contemporary A ages 6-8, Contemporary A ages 9-12, Contemporary A ages 12+:

Beginner/Intermediate Dancers. This 45 minute class is designed for a student who enjoys contemporary dance and takes less than 3 hours of dance weekly. No dance experience required.

Professional Track Contemporary Classes

For experienced dancers. These classes are designed for students beginning and continuing a dedicated path in dance. Dance experience required. Level placement will be determined by audition.

Contemporary Mini ages 5-8, Contemporary Junior ages 9-12, Contemporary Teen ages 13-15, Contemporary Senior ages 14+, Jazz Elite

Tap Classes

A percussive form of dance based upon the use of metal plates on leather shoes. Steps include syncopation and rhythms and can be technical or improvised.

Tap A ages 6-8/Tap A ages 9-11/Tap A ages 12+

Beginner/Intermediate Dancers. This 45 minute class is designed for a student who enjoys Tap dance without a large commitment. No dance experience required.

Teen/Adult Tap

For teens ages 13 and up and adults. This 45 minute class will focus on basic Tap technique and body conditioning.

All Boys Tap

A tap class for boys only. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of tap. An emphasis will be placed on rhythm and coordination.

Professional Track Tap Classes

For experienced dancers. These classes are designed for students beginning and continuing a dedicated path in dance. Dance experience required. Level placement will be determined by audition.

Hip Hop Classes

An urban form of dance that evolved into a structured class. Movement is low to the ground and influenced by today’s youth culture. Hip Hop includes techniques of locking, popping, break dancing and krumping.

Hip Hop A ages 6-8/Hip Hop A ages 9-11/ Hip Hop A ages 12+:

Beginner/Intermediate dancers. These classes are designed for a student who enjoys Hip Hop dance and takes less than 3 hours weekly. No dance experience required.

Teen/Adult Hip Hop

For teens ages 13 and up and adults. This class will focus on basic Hip Hop technique and body conditioning.

Professional Track Hip Hop Classes

For experienced dancers. These classes are designed for students beginning and continuing a dedicated path in dance. Dance experience required. Level placement will be determined by audition.
*Advanced Tap classes are labeled by the letter C and age on the schedule.

Tumbling

Floor tumble technique for dance and cheer. Students learn Acro tricks such as cartwheel, basic rolls, roundoff, front and back walkover, front and back handspring, back tuck and much more. The class also focuses on flexibility and core strength.

Jazz/Pom Pom

A class the incorporates basic jazz technique and movement while also teaching basic arm positions for Pom Pom dance. Students will learn exciting and upbeat choreography using pom poms.


*New this year DM is offering an intermediate level class for ages 6-8 and 9-14. These classes are labeled with the letter B. These classes are designed for students who have been taking dance classes for 2 or more years and who are confident in their technique. Performance Team students are also assigned to these leveled classes.
